1 Chronicles 29:14-18
“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to make this freewill offering? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you. For we are aliens and transients before you, as were all our ancestors; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope. O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own. I know, my God, that you search the heart, and take pleasure in uprightness; in the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you. O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.

Genesis 14:17-24
After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). And King Melchizedek of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High. He blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him one tenth of everything.
Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, but take the goods for yourself.” But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the Lord, God Most High, maker of heaven and earth, that I would not take a thread or a sandal-thong or anything that is yours, so that you might not say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ I will take nothing but what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me—Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre. Let them take their share.”
(Abraham acknowledged that his victory spoils were a gift from God) |

1 Timothy
6:17-19
As for
those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty,
or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God
who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. They are to do
good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus
storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the
future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.

1 Kings
17:7-16
But after
a while the wadi dried up, because there was no rain in the land.
Then the
word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Go now to Zarephath, which
belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to
feed you.” So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate
of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and
said, “Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink.” As she
was going to bring it, he called to her and said, “Bring me a morsel of
bread in your hand.” But she said, ”As the Lord your God lives, I have
nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a
jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and
prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.“ Elijah
said to her, ”Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first
make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make
something for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord the God of
Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not
fail until the day that the Lord sends rain on the earth.“ She went and
did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for
many days. The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil
fail, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.
(the widow of Zarephath provided food for
Elijah out of her depleted reserves) |

For the people of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the

Leviticus
22:17-22,29
The Lord
spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to Aaron and his sons and all the people
of Israel and say to them: When anyone of the house of Israel or of the
aliens residing in Israel presents an offering, whether in payment of a
vow or as a freewill offering that is offered to the Lord as a burnt
offering, to be acceptable in your behalf it shall be a male without
blemish, of the cattle or the sheep or the goats. You shall not offer
anything that has a blemish, for it will not be acceptable in your
behalf. When anyone offers a sacrifice of well-being to the Lord, in
fulfillment of a vow or as a freewill offering, from the herd or from
the flock, to be acceptable it must be perfect; there shall be no
blemish in it. Anything blind, or injured, or maimed, or having a
discharge or an itch or scabs and these you shall not offer to the Lord or
put any of them on the altar as offerings by fire to the Lord. When you
sacrifice a thanksgiving offering to the Lord, you shall sacrifice it so
that it may be acceptable in your behalf.

have to offer) |
